A Labour source has urged Sir Keir Starmer to hone in on Rishi Sunak’s slip over the summer that saw him call for funding in “deprived areas” to be “undone”. A video leaked by the New Statesman over the summer showed the former Chancellor tell grassroots Tories in Tunbridge Wells: “I managed to start changing the funding formulas, to make sure areas like this are getting the funding they deserve because we inherited a bunch of formulas from Labour that shoved all the funding into deprived urban areas and that needed to be undone. I started the work of undoing that.” The Labour leader may choose to raise this as an example of Mr Sunak being “out of touch” during today’s session of PMQs- a criticism they have repeatedly levelled against the Prime Minister. Today marks the first showdown Mr Sunak will face in the Commons after becoming Prime Minister yesterday.

What to expect from today’s PMQ’s

This afternoon’s PMQs will be Rishi Sunak’s first after becoming Prime Minister, a position he was anointed to by the King yesterday.

Mr Sunak will be the third Prime Minister to face Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer this year, after both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss were forced to resign.

According to one Labour advisor, today’s PMQ’s will be “Short and serious.”

“And that’s just the principals.”

Mr Starmer may attack Rishi Sunak for being out of touch with the British public, perhaps pointing to an embarrassing video of the new Prime Minister failing to use a contactless card properly.
