Shaun Bailey told Express.co.uk that Sadiq Khan has had nowhere to hide during his extra year as mayor of the UK’s capital city. The Tories candidate for the upcoming London mayoral election added that Mr Khan has been reactive to the coronavirus pandemic and has failed to demonstrate strong leadership during the covid crisis.
Mr Bailey said: “In the eyes of Londoners, they have seen a complete failure because of the extra year, he has had nowhere to hide.
“He said the Government made him raise travel costs, no they did not.
“It was in the 2019 business plan and he planned to have it happen after the election, now he has been caught out.
“Look at the pandemic, first he was pro the 10pm lockdown, then when it was instigated, he was anti it.
“What this demonstrated was he was just doing the opposite to the Government.
“He was reactive, what we needed was a leader, not someone who reacted.
“We needed someone who was going to protect people’s businesses, people’s health, protect people’s income, all he was doing was playing politics with the Government.
“That really breaks down the trust, because at the time, everybody else in politics was playing together and he separated himself out by playing politics.”
Express.co.uk has contacted Mr Khan’s press office for comment.
