Xiaomi introduces a wireless charger that can charge your phone from two meters away
Wireless charging is a technology that, despite not being widespread, is implemented in virtually all high-end cell phones on the market, as it is a very useful addition that makes charging the mobile more comfortable. You just have to leave it well placed on its charging base.
However, Xiaomi seems to have developed a remote wireless charger that could charge a mobile via wireless charging, despite not being on the charging base, as you could carry it in your hand around this, and it would charge just the same. You could sit on the couch with your phone in your hand while it charges remotely.
This device is called Mi Air Charge, and it can wirelessly charge several devices at once, even if they are not on a charging base, as it is capable of transmitting the charge over a distance of about a couple of meters. However, due to the way the charger works, it would only be compatible with some Xiaomi mobiles that integrate micro-receivers in their battery, which are able to send information to the charger about the position of the mobile in the room, as well as other small antennae that convert the signal into electrical energy.
We’re excited to bring you the remote charging technology – Mi Air Charge Technology! This is a product that is in the testing phase, as it is not yet clear whether Xiaomi will be able to bring to market a product with these features, something that other companies have already tried, but without success. If successful, yes, it would be a big change in terms of how to charge the phone, as it would be much more convenient than conventional Qi wireless charging, and would not require leaving the phone on a base.
If all goes well and this device sees the light at some point, Xiaomi could also export this charging method to other devices, such as smartwatches or wireless headphones, which, in the case of the watch, could even be charged while you have it on your wrist.
At the moment Xiaomi, which is making progress in terms of fast charging, has not said anything about the required position for the cell phone when charging, but it is possible that you would have to keep it in a certain position with respect to the charger.
